![]() The Master Gardener program is a volunteer training program designed to provide experienced and/or interested home gardeners, of all types and backgrounds, with the knowledge and skills necessary to share their experience and information with others. The goal is EDUCATION within the community. In exchange for thirty hours of indoor and outdoor instruction by Penn State University Extension with specialists and local experts in horticulture, candidates agree to complete 50 hours of volunteer service. Master Gardeners are volunteers who support Penn State's Cooperative Extension's educational programs in CONSUMER HORTICULTURE (i.e. Home Gardens). Master Gardeners continually update their horticulture expertise by participating in programs conducted by PSU faculty and Cooperative Extension staff. Faculty and staff also provide diagnostic support and assistance for Master Gardeners. Publications, teaching materials and other support materials are provided for Master Gardener programs. Information presented by Master Gardeners must be consistent with Penn State recommendations. If you are interested in becoming a Master Gardener in Washington County contact us at WashingtonExt@psu.edu.or phone 724-228-6881. |
